You’ve committed to a new workout routine and things are going great for the first few days… then one day you wake up tired, sore, and unmotivated...so your goals go out the window. Sound familiar? Sticking with a new workout routine IS NOT EASY, and there will be days where you don’t remember why you started. Here are a few tips to push through and stay on track!
Set your workout clothes out the night before.
This tip is especially helpful if you are setting your alarm earlier than usual. By setting your clothes out the night before you are mentally preparing yourself to wake up and get it done. You are telling yourself that it is not an option, and when your alarm goes off you will be ready to work! Plus, it helps to cut down your “getting ready” time early in the morning.Even when you don’t want to - start with a 10 minute workout.
Some movement is better than no movement. On the days when you are feeling unmotivated, tell yourself you will just do 10 minutes. Most of the time, once your endorphins start flowing, you will WANT to finish your workout. However, if after 10 minutes your head still isn’t in the game - that’s ok too!
Find an accountability partner.
It’s a lot harder to skip a workout when you know that someone else is waiting on you. Even if it’s just a text from a friend to make sure you didn’t sleep through your alarm, sometimes it can be the exact push you needed. If you are looking for some new fit friends, the #mybkrewe is great for accountability!
Understand that NO ONE has motivation to workout 7 days a week - they have consistency. Read that again.
It is totally normal to feel unmotivated, but you made a goal to be a healthier and better version of yourself and that is too good to give up on. Train your mind to be consistent the same way you train your muscles to be stronger!
Remember why you set your goal in the first place.
Your “why” should always be your biggest motivator. Whether you set a fitness goal for health reasons, to play with your kids longer, to be stronger, or to feel better in your own skin - write it down and put it in a place you see often. On days you just don’t want to workout, look at your “Why” to find your motivation.
The biggest takeaway is that motivation comes and goes, but consistency is key to getting results and reaching your goals. Train your mind to be stronger - the more days you show up for YOURSELF the easier it will become.
